Soul Clap Records next release features 2 of the labels closest extended family members, Ozgood of Afrolicious and the late great Sa'd Ali of Parliament Funkadelic and FSQ.
Sa'd was the connector between George Clinton and Soul Clap and his legacy extends from the foundation of funk and disco through hip-hop, electro and house as a DJ, producer and vocalist. Before his untimely passing his solo records on Anané Vega's Nulu Movement label were supported in clubs around the world.
For their collaboration "No Couture" Ozgood produced and wrote lyrics with Sa'd's vocals in mind and produced the track between Los Angeles and New York at DJ Romain's studio in Bushwick. Mixing in Sa'd's soulful vocal with dirty house with touches of acid the original mix will be the go to club choice after hours. "The song professes a love of living life without regard to the hype of the material world and it's mentality of designer brands equal success" says Ozgood, "Sa'd Ali exemplified substance over style while having personal style that is untouchable. I think that ethos is what attracted everyone from Soul Clap and Crew Love to him. He lived life to the fullest, he loved life to the fullest. We all are trying to touch a small piece of that."
The FSQ perfect 10 remix is literally a full ten minute reworking with strings arranged by Chuck Fishman and an ode to all of the great disco funk arrangers from the '70s that graced so many classic Paradise Garage dances. FSQ was a vehicle for Sa'd and Fishman's balearic sounds and this remix exemplifies the FSQ sound.
